    Crappier ZC?????

Ummm, never heard of such a thing.

Maybe they got ripped on one that wasn't in good nick. If in doubt, get a qualified, impartial mechanic that you trust to do a compression test etc on it.

Unless you are talking about the D16 twin cam which had the advantage of being a later version.

There is actually 3 versions of the ZC that I know of. One is the SOHC ZC which is the same hp as the Si engine "108", then you have the olive valve cover DOHC ZC that came out of the 1st gen CRX's, then you have the DOHC black valve cover ZC, which produces about 130+ hp. The Black Valve cover ZC is the one you want smile

Actually, this will flip you out, there's 3 versions of the DOHC ZC Engines and 2 versions of the SOHC ZC Engines.

    DOHC ZC

    First generation ZC DOHC
    86-87 JDM Integra Quint
86-87 JDM CRX and Civic Si

    Second Generation ZC DOHC
88.5-89 Integra something (came before XSi with the ZC Engine)
88-89 JDM CRX and Civic Si
    88-91 JDM Civic 25i Sedan

    Third Generation ZC DOHC
92-93 JDM Civic Si Limited Edition only

    SOHC ZC

    First Generation
    88.5-93.5 JDM Integra ZXi
    88-92 JDM Civic Wagon 56i
88-92 JDM Civic Wagon RXi or Rti (forget which one - 4WD version)

    Second Generation
    93.5 - (like 99?? I beleive) Integra ZXi.

    D16 DOHC

86-89 Integra RS/GS/LS and Limited Edition Models..all models basically

    The Differences.

86-87 Models....Driver's Engine Mount was on front corner of block...similar bolt holes to our power steering for the D16A6 Wagon Engines.
88-89 Models....Driver's Mount is on side of engine. There are two horizontal Bolt Holes...however the older version has these same ones, but position forward-more to the headlights by about 1.5 inches.
86-87 Models have a different distributor Mounting hole then the 88-91 models. I beleive it is a lot larger. These older models, anything pre-88 was vacuum advanced (retarded on Si as well) with centrifgual advance as well.
92-93 Models have a solid valve cover, no plastic timing belt cover peice is separate - it's all integrated. Nothing is know about a mounting difference, but I "believe" there isn't one. The distributor is just like the Si, No exhuast cam sensor. There's more as well...but it's a better engine. It's also run with the newer 92+ controls.

The SOHC Engines are very much like ours. Beleive it or not, these are Hyper-valve, a designation honda gave the engine since it is so active and responsive...compared to a ZC, it just will not have any top-end...another story. Again these engines are a newer design head on a revised block. The ZC DOHC valvetrain never changed, and was designed the same time the B20A and B18A engines were back in 86 - all engines first DOHC Honda Engines made. ZC DOHC was primarily made for the smaller Integra's and Civic, the B18A was made for the Accord Aerodeck Wagon in 86 (only application I've seen), and the B20A was made for the Prelude exclusively...a slant I-4 block with the a head similar to the B18A at the time.
